Your audience gives you their time, energy, & maybe even money, so what are you giving them in return? What will make them want to stick around for another virtual meeting?

According to Heidi Legein from The MICE Guru, you must evoke emotions through unexpected experiences. In this session, moderated by Sabrina Meyers from Hot Hospitality Exchange, you’ll learn a bit more about this #Emocurrency, and why you should incorporate this at your next virtual or hybrid event.

Enjoy the whole session video above, or read below for some of the highlights:

What is Emocurrency? (3:25)

Legein defines #Emocurrency as the emotional value that you deliver in return for the screen time your attendees are giving you in a digital world. They are paying you, whether that be by a paid ticket or just simply their time, so you need to be cognizant of how are you providing for them. Legein says to put emotion at the forefront. Emotion should be the core of absolutely everything at your event.

Where does Emocurrency fit into a larger plan? (5:50)

Legein recalls the hundreds of virtual events she has attended over the last year. “A lot of them are boring,” she said candidly. She explains how this is due to the “quick fix digital mindset.” Organizers had to move quickly. And thus, the events all resembled one another. It’s time to focus on a long-term plan and a proper digital strategy that sets you apart from the rest. Put your purpose of connecting people first, and everything else should fall into place.

It's the innovation value that gets lost. You need to get back to creating emotion for everybody, whether it be your employees, your suppliers, your clients, your potential buyers - anybody you want to reach must be moved in an authentic way. You need to put your purpose out there, and that starts with connecting people and delivering #emocurrency.

The Digital Disruptor (10:10)

In Legein’s event The Digital Disruptor, they plan to push the boundaries and do something different. It is a hybrid that will put focus on connecting virtual and in-person attendees together.

Just do it! When you wake up with in the morning, those weird dreams you had, Oh, wouldn't it be cool... wouldn't it be cool to have that type of an event. Produce it. Go for it, you know? It's okay to feel scared. Go for innovation. Go for experimentation. And really push those boundaries and stop doing what everybody else is doing.
