Sabrina Meyers, founder of Hot Hospitality Exchange which works with brands and people for online visibility strategy, joined us for the Cadence Collective to speak on how social media is a necessary tool to tap into for engaging events.

Enjoy the whole session video above, or read below for some of the highlights from Sabrina’s presentation:

  • Be Visible to Raise Brand Awareness

    • Identify which social media platforms your attendees are present and active on.

      • People aren’t using only one social platform anymore, so understanding your audience’s preferences and tendencies is the best way to inform your social media strategy.
    • Now, there's no point having a strategy and a plan to use a platform because it's popular, ‘Oh, we got to use clubhouse because everybody's on clubhouse.’ If your audience is not on clubhouse, … [there’s] no point, [it’s] completely useless.

    • Study your existing social media insights and analytics to understand where and when your target audience is most active and engaged. Use this information to supplement your existing social strategies leading up to an event for the most impactful social media presence.
  • Invest in Engaging Influencers for the Event

    • Tap into the influencers that are well known and respected in your event’s space. They have a community behind them, they’re used to being public facing, and they have reputations as thought leaders.
    • So if you can identify the right social media influencers or influencers that are visible online in that space for your event, then you can raise awareness for this event, and potentially engagement, quite a lot.

  • Nurture and Build Your Community

    • Sabrina has two tips when it comes to building and nurturing an engaged community that would be excited to attend your event.

      • An exchange, not a bulletin board. Your audience should be able to derive value from your social channels outside of announcements and updates. Make sure you’re posting a mixture of informational, educational, promotional, and entertainment-focused content.
      • It shouldn't just be a bulletin board. If your event is addressing key issues and topics, then these should be the content pillars for your social media content [if] you want to give value. Start and be part of conversations. After all, it's social media, so you need to be social.

      • Interact with your community. Engage with your attendees before and after the event to build brand advocates. Show up consistently, interact and network with your audience, and they will become part of your community.
      • If you interact with your community and audience over a longer time period before, as well as after the event, then you're building the relationships that are going to increase the engagement at your event.
